Artist Statement

“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”- Edward Hopper

Art is my form of self-expression and a means to connect with others. I strongly believe in the power of art to heal and uplift, and I strive to incorporate aspects of our lives into my work that resonate with the audience. My constant drive for innovation and experimentation ensures that each piece is unique and carries a story.

My artistic journey began with oil on canvas, creating customized works for clients in various themes, which helped me find my voice as an artist. Over the years, I have explored textured canvases, portraits, and themes centered around nature, such as landscapes, flowers, and birds. Currently, I enjoy working with acrylic on canvas but also have a deep love for oils. Besides these mediums, I find joy in stippling and line work using uni pens, often combining them with acrylics to add depth and uniqueness to my customized works.

My exploration of mandalas started as a self-guided journey, drawn by their harmonious patterns and geometric excellence. My current collection, ‘Sheen Mandalas,’ showcases my signature style and expertise in mandalas, incorporating elements from the art and architecture I encountered during my travels, especially during my stay in Spain. The stylistic influences of Islamic art, such as intricate calligraphy, geometric patterns, and floral motifs found in mosques, churches, and other architectural structures around the world, are prominently seen in my work. My mandalas draw inspiration from the Shah Mosque in Iran, the stucco motifs of the Alhambra, the Spanish Gothic cathedrals of Toledo, and the exquisite decoration and arches of the Mosque Cathedral of Córdoba. The typical Mudéjar style, along with the Gothic and Renaissance elements seen in the Alcazar of Seville, also deeply influences my artistic style. Renowned architect Antoni Gaudi and painter Vincent Van Gogh are two stalwarts whose work inspires me.

A mandala is often seen as a spiritual and ritual symbol, representing a visual depiction of the universe or a meditation guide. In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, entering the mandala and moving towards its center symbolizes a cosmic transformation from suffering to joy and happiness. Over time, I developed a profound connection with mandalas and cultivated a style uniquely mine. I began painting mandalas that were not only different in shape but also in color and primary design concept. I aimed to use the meditative nature of mandalas to focus the viewer on the central themes of the artwork. For example, my work ‘Desert Rose’ highlights Dubai’s progress and development as a leading cosmopolitan city despite its arid desert landscapes. My recent artwork ‘Girl with a Bun’ showcases the top view of a ballerina at the center of the mandala, with her arms stretched, embodying the essence of women empowerment. ‘The Rosette’ marks a detour from the standard circular shape and is instead a hexagon.

My studio, my sanctuary of joy, is where I immerse myself in my practice. Painting brings me immense pleasure, transporting me into a world of peace and harmony. That is exactly what I want my viewers to feel. Through my art, I hope to offer a sense of tranquility and connection while also raising awareness of the questions I am exploring through my art. I want viewers to experience the same serenity and harmony that I find in the process of creating these works.
